This weekend started well with a great game of ultimate on Saturday. I may have to go buy another set of flags as we only had one extra (we maxed at 19 people, I think). Weather was great and we had a good number of people, so it was a really good time. My shins are not quite 100% so I end up messing them up slightly every weekend. I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to run a the 10K I signed up for in a few weeks…
I believe OMan took some photos of ultimate, which I’m looking forward to seeing. I’ve brought my camera a few times, but end up never taking any shots because I’m having too much fun playing, so I’ve stopped. Maybe sometime in the future I’ll try again…
Saturday night, I went downtown to celebrate Gianni’s birthday. I should have brought my camera, but I forgot as I rushed out of the house. Doh! We went to Roy’s which was pretty good then I went home feeling like I possibly contracted OMan’s cold. I slept through a good part of Sunday and woke up feeling better. My Seattle cough might be gone too!
Went home for dinner and Oriana made some molten lava cake which was pretty good. Thanks, littlest sisterface. =)
Sometime during the weekend, I rediscovered the following and was pleased. Perhaps I should be ashamed, but I am not. =)
“I never thought that I could be so satisfied,
Everytime that I look in your angel eyes.
A shock inside me that words just can’t describe,
And there’s no explaining.
There’s something in the way you move, I can’t deny,
Every word from your lips is a lullaby.
A twist of fate makes life worth while,
You are gold and silver.
I said I wasn’t gonna lose my head, but then
POP! Goes my heart.
I wasn’t gonna fall in love again, but then
POP! Goes my heart.
And I just can’t let you go,
I can’t lose this feeling.” – Hugh Grant (?)
This weekend was a wondrous ultimate frisbee weekend as the weather was awesome and we had a great showing (including Simon from BV UK)! We also ended up playing the longer way on the field pretty successfully. It was a good time and we had only minor injuries (I believe Mark was bleeding and Steph messed up her finger a little).
Some BV and related folk came over on Saturday night and we played Mr.Bacon’s Big Adventure, which turned out to be pretty much like Candy Land, and a few other games in addition to that. Wrapped up the night with a visit to Jim’s which has solidified the realization that caffeine is actually doing things to me now. That’s something new for me to get used to…
On Sunday, went to Vox, then watched the USA/Canada game (grats, Canada). Took the doggies back up to Round Rock (was taking care of them while mom/sister were visiting Dallas) and now I’m just chilling at the parents’ with Oriana…
Here are some pics from a BV game night at my place on Thursday:
Let’s see… there are a few topics to discuss, but some I will not. Sometimes it is a bit awkward to use a very public blog as a sort of virtual scrap book…
Anyways, Thursday, a group of BVers + Sam and I went to the Love Bites sing-along at the drafthouse. It was pretty amazing. Unfortunately, I’m not over the cough I picked up from the cold I caught in Seattle, so belting out to the likes of Journey, Queen, etc. did not help. I toughed it out though through a bunch of cough drops and tea and had a blast. IMO, one of the best, if not the best sing-along they’ve got (that I’ve been to, at least).
Today, had a great game of ultimate where Al joined us again after finishing his marathon last week. I managed to scrape up my knee a bit, but I purchased pads for my cleats that helped a bunch in preventing my shins from busting again. Mikey got banged up quite a bit by getting pelted with the frisbee a few times on this arms, and face… then he jammed his thumb into Mark. Maybe I’ll start cataloging all of our frisbee injuries… =)
Spent the latter part of today napping and cleaning… that’s it… for now. =)
I’ve apparently been awake for the past almost two hours and I can’t go back to sleep (which is a rarity for me). I suppose I might as well blog!
Here are some pics from Sunday, when Al ran his first marathon!
Ryan had an “accident:”
Yay, London Lad!
Here’s my sign, which I don’t think Al liked that much:
I’m sure he liked Meagan’s more:
For the rest of Sunday, I cleaned up a good chunk of my house which was long overdue for vacuuming, then took a nap in my tauntaun. Went to dinner with Sam, then chilled for a while with him and Ryan before going to sleep again only to wake up two hours ago… and here I am.
I spent way too long trying to find lyrics to put here… but alas, they have been found!
“Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg
Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes – it’s a duck blur
You might solve a mystery or rewrite history
Duck Tales, Oo-oo
Tales of derring-do, bad and good luck tales, oo-oo
D-d-d-danger, watch behind you – there’s a stranger out to find you
What to do? Just grab onto some Duck Tales, oo-oo!
Not pony tails or cotton tails but Duck Tales, oo-oo!” – Mark Mueller/Disney
Did you know that Mark Mueller wrote the Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers theme song as well? That guy is awesome. Okay, time to try to sleep again…
I somehow bruised the top of one of my knuckles (see pic at end of post) while playing ultimate today, but that’s okay because it was a lot of fun to play again. I’m still getting over a cough, but I managed to play acceptably through it. =)
Tomorrow, Al runs his first marathon! Good luck! In the morning, I’ll be over at Scotty’s along with other BVers to cheer him on at the ~23 mile mark.
Yesterday, I won $223 from being in a money booth. Thanks again, BV! I think I will use the money to EAT FOOD.
“Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
Bootlegging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the DA man
When I heard this woman singing a song” – The Hollies
… not really, that’s just the song I’m listening to. =) This weekend was pretty boring as I basically just quarantined myself at home trying to get over this stupid cold/cough.
I skipped out on going to Dallas to eat food, skipped out on ultimate, and skipped out on going to Vox. Darn you, germs. I did, however, watch the Saints win the Super Bowl. Grats to them. =)
I started doing my taxes on TurboTax, but I’m not entirely sure what the best way to handle roommate rent income is. Not entirely sure how much and how to classify my expenses/interest, etc…. time to do some investigating…
“I think I’m in love
And my life’s lookin’ up
I think I’m in love
‘Cause I can’t get enough (no, no, no)
I think I’m in love
It’s gotta be love” – Eddie Money
I’m off to Seattle later today (Tuesday) on business, but hopefully I’ll have some amount of fun. =)
This past weekend, we had our usual ultimate in somewhat cold weather, but it was fun anyways. I don’t exactly recall what I did between ultimate and that night, but I do know Sam summoned me to pick his drunk butt up from downtown late at night. I brought along Chancy to pick him up and well, let’s just say Sam made the trip home quite interesting.
I had a conversation with Nancy about dating and I had the idea of going on a date and playing a “deal breaker or not” game where you basically take turns listing aspects about yourself that you think could be deal breakers and the other person says it is or isn’t. I figure this is probably a short term lose-lose situation as the game would either be really boring or get awkward really quickly once you hit a deal breaker. On the plus side, I suppose it will help you in the long run not waste any time. I’m totally just joking, by the way.
Went to Vox again on Sunday, had lunch at Jim’s with a few peeps then went up to Round Rock for a bit. That night, chilled with Ryan, Heather and Steph by playing way too much hearts and watching Enchanted, which I found amusing. That movie’s genius on Disney’s part with all the recycling they were able to do. I fell asleep in a lovesac, which I apparently humped pretty good. For the record, I’d like to say I burrowed, not humped…
For all of my cyber-stalkers out there thinking they can invade my house while I’m gone, you better watch out. Ryan’s still there and he’ll possibly bite your face off.
I will now end this post with an excerpt from an “artist” who has one of the highest ratios of ridiculous lyrics per character ever.
“He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn’t good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth” – Avril Lavigne
That song’s called Sk8ter Boi. I’m not joking. Ridiculous.
On Sunday, Sam and I went with Ochs to Vox where we’ve both been long absent from. He put it well in his Facebook post when he said it felt like home. It was good to go again. =)
Ate lunch at Sunflower, went home and half-napped, half-chatted with BV crew (Ryan, Steph, Heather) and Sam until the Saints/Vikings game. Watched the game, then headed to Pluckers to meet up with Al and Scotty.
That about sums up Sunday. Time to finish off January!
“Josie’s on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I wanna say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don’t wanna lose your love tonight” – The Outfield
Well, ultimate on Saturday was spoiled a bit by crazy wind, but we had a lot of people show up, which was pretty cool. Can’t wait until we have those numbers with a calmer day. That’ll be awesome.
After frisbee, food, and a nap, I went to Al’s birthday bash with Ryan. It was a themed party, if you can’t tell from the photos…
There were also some really old LIFE magazines there…
“I know you’ve heard it all before –
so I don’t say it anymore
I just stand by and let you fight your secret war.
And though I used to wonder why -
I used to cry till I was dry.
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside
Oh, Joey, if you’re hurting so am I.” – Concrete Blonde
Okay, this is a day late, but I’ll try to remember what I did over the weekend… I’ve already forgotten what happened, but I remember Friday night ending at Jim’s and my hands turned purple and I was shaking. Something like that…
On Saturday, I woke up to the loud one calling me to tell me to make up for daughter inadequacies and to get my mom flowers, a card, and balloons. I went ahead and did so after the customary ultimate frisbee game, but not before I popped a balloon, got the card envelope sucked into the checkout conveyer belt, and lost the “how to take care of these flowers” card that game with the orchids I got. *shrug* Happy birthday, mommy!
We had a decent amount of people show for ultimate including Van (woo!) and Victor. Turned out to be a good 4v5 game.
On Sunday, my shins were feeling it pretty bad. I think I gave myself shin splints the week before and I didn’t really let off of them during this past weekend, so yeah… I’m gonna have to take it a bit easier next weekend. Went over to Chancy’s to watch the Cowboys lose (I don’t really care about them, so no biggie for me =p), then went back to the park with some peeps to practice throwing the frisbee around. Ended the day with some korean food and bumming around online. I *think*. =)
I also found out today that I will be visiting Seattle for two days in February. I guess that’s alright…
