The Mommy one

Okay, this is a day late, but I’ll try to remember what I did over the weekend… I’ve already forgotten what happened, but I remember Friday night ending at Jim’s and my hands turned purple and I was shaking. Something like that…

On Saturday, I woke up to the loud one calling me to tell me to make up for daughter inadequacies and to get my mom flowers, a card, and balloons. I went ahead and did so after the customary ultimate frisbee game, but not before I popped a balloon, got the card envelope sucked into the checkout conveyer belt, and lost the “how to take care of these flowers” card that game with the orchids I got. shrug Happy birthday, mommy!

We had a decent amount of people show for ultimate including Van (woo!) and Victor. Turned out to be a good 4v5 game.

On Sunday, my shins were feeling it pretty bad. I think I gave myself shin splints the week before and I didn’t really let off of them during this past weekend, so yeah… I’m gonna have to take it a bit easier next weekend. Went over to Chancy’s to watch the Cowboys lose (I don’t really care about them, so no biggie for me =p), then went back to the park with some peeps to practice throwing the frisbee around. Ended the day with some korean food and bumming around online. I think. =)

I also found out today that I will be visiting Seattle for two days in February. I guess that’s alright…

The 18 one

Lalala… nothing crazy this weekend. Ultimate as usual on Saturday, which was a bit colder than previous weekends, but the sun was out and after running around for a while, I was fine in a t-shirt. We managed to get a pretty decent game going, I think.

I moved my tauntaun to the living room to watch Ghost World with Ryan and Steph, but I promptly passed out as I discovered it was really good at keeping me warm. I feel like I spent a good deal of Friday/Saturday passed out within the tauntaun.

Sunday, I went with family to Fleming’s and ate a lot in celebration of Oriana’s 18th birthday. I also ordered some beef jerky from Amazon. =p

The New Year one

As is probably apparent by my previous posts, I opted to stay in town to welcome in 2010 instead of venturing to Dallas with Heather, Steph and Ryan. That being the case, I saw in the new year with a few peeps over at my place who just hung out and played games mostly. I also volunteered to dog-sit Ally as Chancy went to another party.

On Saturday, since nearly everyone is out of town for a while, Mark and I worked on our frisbee technique. I’m happy to say that I am quite content with where my back-hand throw is now (it previously was utterly terrible) which has gotten stronger and more accurate. After nearly two hours of that, we went to get food then Brook showed up with a few peeps and we played a relatively short 3v3 game. <3 Ultimate.

I also watched the Tech and Cowboys games, Sherlock Holmes, and the ending of a horrible “SyFy” movie - Flu Bird Horror. I’d say two of those four were satisfying, one was mediocre, and one, I am lucky to have seen without suffering brain damage. I will let you guess which is what.

“You’ve been around for such a long time now
Oh maybe I could leave you but I don’t know how
And why should I be lonely every night
When I can be with you, oh yes you make it right” - Tracey Ullman

Very early in the morning

It’s approximately 4:20AM right now and Viraj, Mark and I finished playing some DoTA after I watched Mark decimate Viraj in a game of Risk. In the middle of their game, I had a craving for ramen, so I went to HEB and got some. Ironically, by the time I got back, my craving had subsided and I was too lazy to make any, so… I ended up eating a bunch of junk food instead.

After seeing my 2009 blog word cloud, I’ve determined that I use the word “just” too much, so I’m going to make a conscious effort to curb that habit.

In my little photo sig, you’ll also see the “Happy New Year!” plate that Heather and Steph left for me before they kidnapped Ryan. Apparently they forced him to sign it too. How sweet. =p I, however, saw the secret code in my roommate’s signature that screams “help me! these girls are crazy!”

OMG, they’re torturing him by force-feeding him! Don’t worry, Ryan, the ninjas I sent to retrieve you should be arriving shortly.

The after Christmas one

So let’s see… this weekend we had some more Ultimate Frisbee action… Ryan returned from Cincinnati, Ohio… and… I can’t really think of anything else.

Oh, Chad, Viraj and I watched The Mighty Ducks and Rookie of the Year last night instead of The Dark Knight. That was pretty sweet. Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!

I’ve also decided I am going to end my blog posts, whenever possible, with a webcam shot. Dine thy eyes on the beauty of my face!

Oh, you thought I’d grace you with my whole face, eh? Well, you’ll just have to visit back for more!

The iMac one

So I got bored Sunday and “somehow” managed to finagle myself into getting a 27” iMac. I talked to Ryan about it as I contemplated it after a few hours of surfing around researching it and the conversation quickly went from “what in the world do you need an iMac for?” to “well, you might as well get the big one.” In the middle of our discussion, I called Chad saying “he’d understand.” He did, of course, and also suggested I get the big one. =)

Well, the thing has a pretty big beast of a screen and it’s pretty zippy with its Core i5. It’ll serve me well in photo editing (and hopefully video eventually).

On Saturday, we had our usual Ultimate game, but my leg was cramping the entire time so that made it tricky for me to run. It’s still feeling cramped, so I’m thinking I may have actually pulled it because I don’t think it can cramp for over a day or two…

I’ve gone through and reread the entirety of MrTechHappy.com and found it really amusing. There was a while there where we were really on a roll (even if the jokes were many times inside ones) and I actually really laughed out loud at various times. Those were good times. I’m seriously considering trying to get Mark committed into giving a web comic another go, if only to provide myself entertainment in a few years.

Here are some pictures I took… some of Ally, Chancy’s new puppy!

Last, but not least, I got my self-portrait in! He is now above my fireplace. =)

Meatcation Day 7 - The Finale

Our Meatcation finale was smoking a whole suckling pig which we purchased from Whole Foods. It weighed about 26 pounds. We started by sticking it in the smoker around 4AM and I also started slow cooking some more oatmeal to be ready later in the day. We took shifts attending to the smoker’s temperature and smoke levels with Andrew going first and me taking over at around 7:30. In an attempt to keep the smoker hot, we got bricks which we wrapped in foil to place inside the smoker and we ghetto rigged it with some insulation.

When it was my turn, the temps had seemingly dropped to an abysmal 120F, which was far from our goal of about 200F-220F (I think that’s right). On top of that, our utility lighter ran out of juice, so I had to run to Walgreens to get a replacement. I eventually got new charcoal going and heated the smoker back up. When it was Mark’s turn to take over, he discovered that our thermometer was placed in the wrong area and was reading inaccurate temps… turns out it was about 50-80F hotter than it was reporting, so we probably accidentally went over our desired temperatures thinking we were far under.

Mark and I ate some oatmeal, and then we all went to our customary ultimate frisbee game at 1PM. We returned and Andrew and Mark prepared the sides/sauces, watched Florida lose to Alabama, and then finally broke into the pig at around 6:30PM.

Al, Ochs, Weishan and her family, Chad, Sam, Ryan and Angell came over (or were just around) to help us conquer the mass amounts of meat we had. Success!

Now for some pics…

Our pig, brand new out of the box… his name is Wilbur.

We stuffed Wilbur with various types of apples (and I think an onion as well).

Meatcation Day 1

Meatcation has begun! We kicked off the week with some tasty lamb chops with asparagus. We also built a questionable structure to guard our flame against the water from the heavens.

As usual, Flickr has more Meatcation pics.

I also somehow managed to watch Star Trek three times last week (four if you count once with the commentary). Although, to be fair, I did fall asleep half of the last time through it (food coma). Here are some photos of my crazy sisters from Thanksgiving:

We plan on starting the smoker at ~3AM to cook brisket for Monday night. On to day 2!
